The Christian County Lady Colonels basketball team is preparing for their regular season, and they faced off against Graves County in a scrimmage at noon on Saturday. Each quarter was played independently, as the score was reset at every horn, and a fifth quarter was played with a 10-minute running clock.

Both teams got off to a fairly slow start in the first quarter, as the first field goal of the came didn’t come until two minutes in on a layup from Graves. Christian County then get their first shot to go about 30 second later.

Fouls also played a big part, as the Lady Colonels were in the bonus just under three minutes in. But turnovers plagued Christian County, and they were down 13-9 at a late timeout. There were no more points after that, and Graves took the first period.

The second quarter was all about runs, and the Lady Colonels started on a 6-0 run and forced a timeout just over a minute in. Their zone defense was giving the Lady Eagles a bit of trouble, but Graves was able to eventually figure it out. This was evident in a run of their own to take the lead 7-6. But keeping with the theme of runs, the Lady Colonels were able to string together a few buckets and win the quarter 13-7.

Graves then came out of the gates hot in the third quarter, getting out to a 12-0 start behind three three-pointers. This forced a timeout, but Anaysia Bagwell and Genesis McGee were able to get the scoring going after that for the Colonels with a three and an and-one.

They kept chipping away at the lead, but it was too little too late, and the Lady Eagles were able to take the quarter 22-16.

They were then able to get out to another fast 11-4 start in the fourth behind a three and two and-ones. But Christian County was able to call back, and a Bagwell three tied it up at 15. The Lady Colonels could have completed the comeback and got the win in the quarter, but a few empty possessions and a Graves and-one sealed the 24-18 victory for the Lady Eagles in the period.

For the fifth and final period of the game, there was a 10-minute running clock, and this is when both offenses really came alive. There was a lot of back and forth, and Graves then took a 12-10 lead after their third and-one of the quarter.

Both teams then traded some threes later in the period that tied it at 15 apiece. Graves took the lead with a free throw, but Bagwell was able to get a bucket in the post that gave the Lady Colonels the late lead. They were then able to get some stops and secure the win in the final period 20-18.

Bagwell led the way for Christian County with 29 points over the course of the game. McGee was also able to contribute 15 points, putting up quite the performance from the free throw line.

The Lady Colonels will begin their regular season on Friday, December 5, against Kenwood for their last first home game. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
