Count Seth McGowan as a Believer in Cutter Boley

Cutter Boley had been called the “future” of the Kentucky football program by coach Mark Stoops well before he won Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week three straight times.

Senior running back Seth McGowan has been a key component of UK’s offense this season and watched Boley’s progression as a passer and leader.

“I definitely think the sky’s the limit for that man right there just because of how young he is,” McGowan said. “When you have little to no hesitation at that age and with that little of experience, that’s a great quality to have. He’s been executing at a high level. I’m super excited for him. He deserves everything that’s coming towards right now.”

McGowan leads UK in rushing and admits Boley has pushed him to become a better player.

“Cutter is a great guy. He obviously cares about the guys when he’s out there on the field with them. You’re going to want to do your best when somebody next to you, right next to you is expecting your best,” McGowan said. “It’s been up to us to take control of the backfield, manage the protection, manage the run calls.

“He’s done a tremendous job at that and it’s been really easy to play off, extremely easy. It could kind of take a little bit of weight off your shoulders knowing that you got a guy back there that knows what’s going on and knows the appropriate decisions to make. It’s great playing with him.”

He’s also shown his toughness. Boley got knocked out against Vanderbilt last week but missed only a few plays before returning to finish the game. Stoops was impressed by how Boley handled that situation.

“I love the way he handles himself. We all have to accept our part and it starts with me but I will take that guy any time,” Stoops said. “His attitude, his toughness … give Vandy credit but there are a lot of good days ahead for Cutter.”

Boley has thrown for 2,060 yards and 15 touchdowns this season going into today’s game at Louisville. He has completed 67.3 percent of his passes — 71.7 percent in the last six games — and is within range of the second-best single-season completion record at Kentucky. His 12 touchdown passes against SEC opponents broke Jared Lorenzen’s record for most by a Kentucky freshman (11) set in 2000. He also became the only UK freshman since Lorenzen to throw for 280 yards or more in an away game.

  1. I think the big dog told them all the plays we run because it looks like they know what we are running. They are blitzing the exact linebackers that our supposed to be guarding our tight ends and slot receivers. It's almost like a cheat sheet against us. I should have seen this coming. We are down 17-0 and it doesn't even look close. Louisville has most of there playmakers out and they are still destroying us. I have a feeling that littlw brother is turning into big brother. This game was over before it started. I've never seen a secondary this bad in my life. Play them back more they get burned every time. It looks like they've never played football before. The offensive line playing there last game played horrible. It's not Boleys fault it's definitely the line. It's scary becauss we are losing all these guys after this game except farmer and he might jump in the portal he has new teammates every year.

  2. Hey Guys….how bad did this team really want to play for Stoops and BBN? The Big Dog has seen this S— show many times in the past and he couldn't be laughing louder or be happier. Do many of you still feel Boley is the answer? I hope Stoops gets fired at end of game but Barney too gutless to pull that plug. What a embarrassment and laughter!!

  3. PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW STOOPS INTERVIEW AFTER GAME but OK to record a negotiated buy-out speech for coaching MOST EMBARRASSING UK LOSS EVER>

  4. Tom Leach is a great asset for the telecasts etc. but his softball questions for Stoops after the games is gut wrenching. Stoops has got to be let go after the debaucle. Who in their right mind would want to come in and take a chance on this staff?

  5. Folks as much you want him go, its not going to happened. The only thing that might change if Mitch decides to step down at year end in what im hearing. That could change things.
