Northwest Too Much for Rebels in Season Opener

A slow start proved too much to overcome for the Todd County Central boys’ basketball team on Tuesday in a 59-49 loss to hosts Northwest, TN, the Rebels’ fourth-straight season-opening defeat.

The Rebels managed only 12 first-half points, led by Lane Thomas with eight, while Northwest’s Jacquez Scott scored 11 on his own to lead the Vikings to a 29-12 halftime advantage.

However, Todd Central found the shooting touch after the break, with Conner Holder knocking down a pair of threes on the way to nine points in the third and Spencer Pool and JJ Glass combining for 11.

Holder stayed hot in the fourth with two more triples to finish with a team-high 17 points.  Pool added five to reach double figures with 13, and Thomas finished with 10.

Scott made sure there would be no Rebel comeback with 13 in the second half to lead all scorers with 25 for the Vikings.

Todd Central will welcome Dawson Springs to Elkton on Thursday. The teams last met in 2022 when the Rebels cruised to a 92-15 victory.
