Caldwell’s Girls End Skid Against Webster for First Win

Caldwell County’s girls ended a lengthy losing streak to Webster County in strong fashion Friday night, rolling to a 54-21 victory at the CAB gym.

Tink Clark had 14 points and seven steals while Laylay Shearer and Med Thomas each added nine points for the Lady Tigers, who pressed their way to a 22-6 halftime advantage.

Caldwell (1-1) built a 42-17 lead through three quarters.

The Lady Tigers reached the 35-point mercy rule for a running clock when Ke’Darriah Thompson scored on a putback with 5:37 left in the game. That made it 52-17.

Thompson and Audrey McCoy each added six points for Caldwell. Thompson also gathered in a team-high 10 rebounds.

Addy Wright led Webster with six points.

The Lady Trojans had won 20 straight games from the Lady Tigers. Caldwell’s last win in the series had been in February of 2007.

The Lady Tigers led just 8-4 after one quarter on Friday, but outscored Webster 14-2 in the second quarter to extend the margin to 16 points at halftime.

Caldwell’s girls will go to Madisonville-North Hopkins on Tuesday for their first 7th District game of the season.

Webster (0-1) visits Hopkinsville Saturday afternoon.
