Webster County used a big run in the first quarter and again in the second quarter to gain control of the game and then roll on from there, as the Lady Trojans took a 70-48 win Saturday afternoon over the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers in Tiger Gym.
The game was tied at 5-5 in the first quarter when the Lady Trojans took advantage of Hopkinsville ball-handling issues to rip off 12 straight points and take a 17-5 lead. Webster County held a 22-10 lead when the quarter ended.
The Lady Tigers pulled with 24-14 early in the second and then the Lady Trojans hit them with another run, this one 15-0 as the lead exploded out to 39-14. Hopkinsville responded with a 9-1 run to close out the half and cut the lead to 40-23 heading into the break.

However, the Lady Tigers, due to a combination of turnover and shooting issues, were never able to mount another big run in the second half to get closer. Webster County held a 55-35 lead as the final eight minutes got underway.
Webster County was able to survive turnover issues of its own and rolled on out to the final 22-point margin.
Serenity Ewing led Hopkinsville (0-2) with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Laelah Watkins added 10 points while Kaveyah White finished with 8 points.
Freshman Josie Cardwell led Webster County (1-1) with 31 points, including six made 3-pointers. Ella Rakestraw had 12 points and Addison Wright also hit double digits with 10.
Hopkinsville will get back to action Tuesday night when the Lady Eagles host Apollo.
