The Fort Campbell Lady Falcons played their first game of the season against Hopkinsville at home. Unfortunately for them, that does not mean they were able to get their first win, as the Lady Tigers were able to come in and spoil Fort’s home opener with a 65-32 win.

The Lady Falcons have only won three games ever against Hopkinsville, and this would not be the fourth. The Lady Tigers were able to take command early, and this win was their first of their final season before their consolidation with Christian County.

Hopkinsville got off to a very hot start, as they got out to a very early 8-0 lead. The Lady Falcons were able to get their first bucket of the game with about 3:30 left in the quarter with a three from Cyri Reed.

But that ended up being their only score of the quarter, and the Lady Tigers were able to take a 19-3 lead into the second period.

The next quarter was more of the same with Hopkinsville building their lead even more, as it got to 20 with a few minutes left to play. While Fort Campbell was able to put together a few scores in the second, none of them came after they went down 20, and they went into the halftime break down 44-11 after a buzzer-beating layup by Hopkinsville’s Dominique Allensworth.

The third quarter was very different for the Lady Tigers, as they were unable to capitalize on a lot of the chances they were getting, at least in the early minutes of the quarter. The game also started to become slower paced, as more and more foul calls started to get called.

Despite all of that, Hopkinsville was able to take a 50-20 lead into a timeout with four minutes left in the quarter. After that break, only nine combined points were scored, and the Lady Tigers went into the final quarter up 57-22.

Despite the Lady Falcons stringing together a few buckets and having one of their best stretches of the game, Hopkinsville was able to match them and get the victory 65-32.

Their leading scorer in the game Laelah Watkins 18 behind three makes from beyond the arc. The team also had two others in double-digits, those being Serenity Ewing with 13 and Allensworth with 10.

As for the Lady Falcons, their leading scorer was Amari Grimsely with 15, and she did a lot of her work from the charity stripe.

Fort Campbell will be looking to bounce back in their first away game of the season on Saturday, December 13, against Warren Central. That game is scheduled to tip off at 1:30 p.m.

The Lady Tigers will hope to start a win streak in the early going of their final season in their next game on Thursday, December 11, against Caldwell County. That is the Toyota of Hopkinsville Holiday Classic, and it will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Hopkinsville High School.
