Hopkinsville Offense Lights It Up in Win Over Todd County Central

A huge second quarter and just too much firepower overall Saturday night in the final game of the day at the 2025 Toyota of Hopkinsville Holiday Classic. Hopkinsville gained control of the game, putting 35 points on the board, breaking open a close game, and then rolling on to a 92-59 win over the Todd County Central Rebels

The Tigers used three pointers from James Bradley Jr. and Jonovan Leavell to take a quick 8-3 lead, leading to a Todd Central timeout with 4:38 to go in the opening quarter.

After the timeout, the Rebels got Connor Holder on track from outside the arc. Holder scored 12 points in the first quarter as Todd County Central came battling back and took the lead on a couple of occasions. Hopkinsville knocked down a three right before the end of the quarter to take the lead at 19-16 after eight minutes.

Todd Central got a pair of baskets from Hunter Johnson to open the second quarter as the Rebels took a 20-19 lead. But then the roof fell in on the Rebels.

Hopkinsville unleashed a 27-6 run over the next several minutes, and a one-point Todd County Central lead turned into a 20-point deficit at 46-26 in what felt like the blink of an eye. Jonovan Leavell and Curtis Dillard went into ‘heat check’ mode from the outside as Hopkinsville’s offense started clicking on all cylinders.

The lead would still be at 20 points as the two teams went into the break with Hopkinsville up 54-34.

Jonovan Leavell had a massive first half for Hopkinsville with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. James Bradley Jr. added 9 points for the Tigers in the half.

Todd County Central got a solid half from Connor Holder with 15 points, including four 3-pointers. Hunter Johnson added 10 points in the first sixteen minutes for the Rebels.

After knocking down four threes in the first quarter, the Tigers buried five more in the second as the onslaught from outside the arc continued. The Rebels had five of their own, four of them coming from Connor Holder.

After a Hunter Johnson basket to open the second half for Todd County Central, the Tigers delivered the knockout blow. Hopkinsville ripped off the next 14 points of the game as the lead ballooned to 68-36. The quarter ended with Hopkinsville up 77-46.

The final quarter was a matter of playing it out to the final score, with Hopkinsville reserves seeing most of the action in the quarter.

After a big first half, Hopkinsville’s Jonovan Leavell finishes with 26 points to lead all scorers in the game. Jayon Bass and Jayven Battle added 13 points each. James Bradley Jr. ended up with a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds. Curtis Dillard also hit double figures with 11.

Connor Holder was the leading scorer for Todd County Central with 22 points. Hunter Johnson added 14. John Ross Cardwell just missed a double-double with 9 points and 12 rebounds.

For the game, Hopkinsville made 11 3-point shots, while Todd County Central had 8.

Hopkinsville (4-1) will be back in action Tuesday night as the Tigers go on the road to take on unbeaten Webster County.

The Rebels (1-7) are also on the road Tuesday as they go to Bowling Green to take on Foundation Christian.
