The University Heights Blazers basketball team was looking to start a win streak in their Monday matchup with Henderson County. But it was the Colonels who were able to come out with the win 76-53, which is their third win in a row.
UHA got on a roll early, and that led them to be up 16-13 after the buzzer sounded for the end of the first quarter. But the rest of the game belonged to the Colonels.
Henderson came right back with a strong second period to take a 33-24 lead into halftime, outscoring the Blazers 20-8 in the quarter.
The lead just continued to grow after the halftime break, with the Colonels going up 55-37 at the end of the third quarter. And if the outcome wasn’t already certain, Henderson scored 21 in the fourth and final quarter to put it away 76-53.
The Colonels had 13 players that showed up in the scoring column, as they showed their bench depth. Another big factor in the win for Henderson was them being to outrebound the 37-29.
This is the fourth matchup in a row between the two teams that Henderson has been able to come out on top, as the last time UHA got the better of the Colonels was in December of 2022.
Amare Stewart led the way in scoring for the Colonels with 15 points, and Xavion Johnson also put up 14 points with seven rebounds.
As for the Blazers, Keshawn Moore finished the game with 21 points, and Ryan Luckey followed him up with 13 of his own.
University Heights will be looking to get back in the win column in their next game on Thursday, December 18, against the Panthers of Dawson Springs. Their game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at University Heights Academy.
