Hot-Shooting Russellville Keeps Trigg Cold In Tuesday Loss

Russellville shot 63% from the field to extend Trigg County’s defensive woes, handing the Wildcats a 70-44 loss on Tuesday at Stevenson Elementary School in Logan County.

The Panthers began the game red-hot, hitting 12 of 15 first-quarter shots in building a 26-9 lead after the first eight minutes. Russellville continually found its way into the paint for easy buckets.

When Russellville wasn’t driving, they were kicking it on the wing to Jerius Coleman, who hit 6 of 9 behind the arc and finished with 22 points.

Russellville hit 22 of 31 shots (71%) in the first half and 29 of 46 (63%) for the game. The Panthers outscored Trigg 42-14 in the paint.

Trigg County outscored Russellville in both the third and fourth quarters, but by that time, the running clock had been activated.

Landon Swann led the Wildcats with 23 points, which included 6 of 8 behind the arc. Davaree Gude added eight points and six rebounds.

The Wildcats turned the ball over 16 times – seven below their season average – but Russellville was opportunistic, scoring 24 points.

Russellville (5-2) has won two straight games against Trigg for the first time since 1948. Trigg County still leads the all-time series 13-9.

The Wildcats (1-5) will play in the St. Mary Christmas Classic this weekend. The Wildcats open with Carlisle County on Friday at 7:30 and will play either Hopkins County Central or Logan County on Saturday.

On Monday, Trigg County lost at Stewart County, Tenn., 67-32. The Rebels scored the first 17 points and led 39-12 at halftime.

Landon Swann led the Wildcats with 12 points, Zammarion Broussard and Clay Travis each scored six points.

The Stewart County win snapped a 10-game losing streak to Trigg County dating back to 1958.
