Both the Dawson Springs Lady Panthers and the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons went into their Tuesday evening matchup against one another having come off a loss in their last game. Both were looking to get back in the win column, and it was Madisonville that was able to do that with a 58-29 victory.

The Lady Maroons started to build their lead up early, going up 11-3 in the first part of the opening quarter. The deficit continued to grow, as Madisonville was able to take a 23-9 lead into the second quarter.

With just over five minutes left in the second, neither team had been able to score. That all changed when Madisonville’s Lilly Gobin hit a three with about four minutes left on the clock. Despite the low scoring quarter, the Lady Maroons were able to get to the halftime break with a 29-12 lead.

The two teams traded some threes to start the third, but after that it was all Madisonville, and they hot two more threes in the quarter.

In the fourth, all it really took was for the Lady Maroons to dribble out the clock, and they were able to get their third win of the season with a score of 58-29.

The leading scorer for Madisonville was JaMia Harris with 24 points behind five made three-pointers. Gobin also put up 17 points with five shots made from beyond the arc.

Dawson Springs’ leading scorer in the game was Baylee Swatzell with 10, and Alieah Cook also contributed six points of her own.

The Lady Panthers and the Lady Maroons have now faced each other 59 times, and the only time that Dawson Springs has been able to win was back in February of 2006. The two teams will face off again later in the season.

But for now, Dawson is focused on getting into the win column for the first time this season, and they will be looking to do so in their next game on Thursday, December 18, against Northeast on the road. That game is set to begin at 5 p.m.

As for the Lady Maroons, they will be hoping they can start a win streak in their next game against Bourbon County on Saturday, December 20. Their game will tip off at 10 a.m. as part of the Maroon Classic at Madisonville-North Hopkins.
