After dropping two close games to Evangel Christian and Bowling Green in the past week, the Christian County Colonels said “enough of that.” The Colonels trailed only once Thursday night, that coming at 3-2, as they rolled past Todd County Central 85-54 in Elkton.

The Colonels got another hot start from Rahsean Stevenson to start the game. With the big man crashing the boards and going strong to the basket, Christian County jumped out to a 9-3 lead.

The Rebels fought back and closed to within 10-8 behind the efforts of the trio of Connor Holder, Spencer Pool, and John Ross Cardwell.

However, Christian County hit the Rebels with a quick 6-0 run to end the opening quarter with a 16-8 lead.

The run would eventually get to 12 points as the Colonels then scored the first six points of the second quarter and the lead swelled to 22-8.

Turnovers started to cost the Rebels, giving Christian County runout opportunities. Todd Central finished the half with 12 miscues as the Colonels extended the lead to 35-17 at the break. On the other side, Christian County was doing a good job on ball security with only four first-half turnovers.

Balance was another key for Christian County in the first 16 minutes as seven different Colonels scored, led by Jay Henderson and Rahsean Stevenson with 7 points each. Holder, Cardwell, and Pool were the only Rebels to mark the scorebook in the half.

Todd Central opened the second half with a three from Connor Holder to trim the lead to 35-20. But then, the Colonels dropped the hammer once and for all on this one. Led by the efforts of Jay Henderson and Darren Bigbee, Christian County ripped off a 16-2 run to blow the lead out to 51-22. The third quarter ended with the Colonels holding a 63-31 lead. James Farley closed the quarter out strong for Christian County with 8 points in the final moments of the third.

From there, it was a matter of playing things out to the final score as the Colonels ended their brief two-game skid.

James Farley led a big team effort for Christian County wit 17 points and 9 rebounds. Jay Henderson finished with 16 points. Tom Johnson and Rahsean Stevenson added 9 points each. Stevenson had a big night on the glass with 13 rebounds. Zion Acree, Zyon Wharton, and Darren Bigbee had 6 points each.

Todd Central’s John Ross Cardwell led all scorers in the game with 24 points, 19 of them coming in the second half. Spencer Pool added 13 points, while Connor Holder also hit double figures with 10.

Christian County (3-3) goes back on the road Monday to take on Calloway County in The Hardwood Classic.

Todd County Central (2-8) will head off to South Warren Monday to take on Fayette Academy in the Chopped Lawn Care Holiday Classic.
