University Heights Academy has looked inside to fill its vacant softball head coaching position. School officials announced Thursday that middle school coach Derrick Herndon was being elevated to the high school coaching position.
Herndon moves into the position following the departure of Ashlie Ezell, who stepped down following the 2025 season,
It was also announced that former Christian County standout Hannah Hodge will be serving as the assistant coach for the Lady Blazers.
One of the immediate challenges for the new coaching staff will be to build numbers. Last season’s team finished with 13 players on the roster.
The Lady Blazers finished as the 8th district runner-up in 2025, falling to Henderson County in the opening round of the 2nd Region tournament.
