The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers basketball team went into their Thursday evening matchup with Muhlenberg County looking to break their three game losing streak. They were unfortunately unable to do that, as they lost to the Lady Mustangs 69-40.
Muhlenberg got off to a very fast start, scoring 24 points in the first quarter compared to Hopkinsville’s six. Laelah Watkins scored four of those points, but it was not enough to start the game with a large deficit.
Kaveyah White was able to hit a pair of threes in the second quarter to help the Lady Tigers score 16 points in the period, but the Lady Mustangs were able to stay very hot and score 25. This was due in no small part to their being able to get to the rim at will.
This allowed Muhlenberg to take a 49-22 lead into the halftime break.
The Lady Tigers’ offense was back on the struggle bus in the third quarter, scoring just eight points. On the other side, Muhlenberg was able to keep up their scoring with 18 in the period.
Hopkinsville was able to outscore the Lady Mustangs 10-4 in the final quarter, but it was too little too late at that point. In a game where the Lady Tigers were desperately seeking a win, they instead lost 69-40.
Serenity Ewing had a very solid game for the Lady Tigers, finishing as the team’s leading scorer with 11 points, while also dominating the glass with 18 total rebounds. Watkins was also able to contribute 10 points of her own with three rebounds.
The Lady Tigers are now 10-6 all-time against the Lady Mustangs, and they will be looking for revenge the next time the two teams face off.
But for now, Hopkinsville will be focused on getting back in the win column in their next game on Tuesday, January 6, against Owensboro on the road. Their game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.
