Butler Closes Out Strong to Hand Lyon Second Straight Loss

The Butler Bears survived a good start from Lyon County Saturday night to hand the Lyons their second straight loss. Butler rallied from a seven-point deficit at the end of the opening quarter and came back to run past Lyon County 68-51 in the consolation bracket of the Chad Gardner Law King of the Bluegrass.

Lyon County came out and took a 16-9 lead after the opening quarter. Bray Kirk had a big quarter with seven points to get the Lyons off to the good start.

Adrian Wilder heated up from the outside for Butler in the second quarter and helped to bring the Bears back to within 30-28 at the half.

The story of the second half was the Butler defense. The Bears limited the Lyons to 11 points on just four field goals in the third quarter as Butler took a 46-41 lead going into the final quarter.

The Bears again in the fourth quarter limited the Lyons to just four made field goals as they pulled away for the 17-point win.

Bray Kirk led three Lyons in double figures with 19 points. Nolan Coffman added 14, while Isaac Defew finished the night with 10 points.

Adrian Wilder hit 5 3-pointers and led Butler with 23 points. Steven Tinsley add 15 points for the Bears.

Lyon County (5-3) will finish its trip to Fairdale with a game Sunday afternoon.
