A night after losing to Cooper in the opening round of the Queen of the Bluegrass, the Hopkins County Central Lady Storm rebounded to get back on the winning track. The Lady Storm took a first half lead and then held off North Bullitt down the stretch to take a 54-51 win at Bullitt East High School.
Behind their outside shooting, the Lady Storm took a 14-9 lead after the first eight minutes of the contest. Central knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter, two of them coming from Macy Cotton.
Both teams’ defense clamped down in the second quarter, allowing the other just four field goals in the quarter. The Lady Storm would head off to the break up 23-19.
Hopkins County Central was able to get a bit of an offensive rhythm going in the third quarter behind the play of Calajia Mason. The Lady Storm headed into the final quarter holding a 42-35 lead.
Central was then able to hold the Lady Eagles at bay over the final eight minutes to take the three-point win.
A big night for Calajia Mason with 21 points. A night after having to leave the game due to injury early in the third quarter, Tyah White came back to score 10 points for the Lady Storm. Addie Menser scored 9 points on three 3-pointers.
Kylie Downey was the leading scorer for North Bullitt with 21 points. Jayden Bauer added 13 points.
Hopkins County Central (5-2) will be back in action Sunday afternoon taking on DuPont Manual.
