The Hopkins County Centre Storm played their final game at the St. Mary Christmas Classic against South Fulton, and they were able to get a commanding 88-51 win to end their time in Paducah, KY.
South Fulton by no means got off to a bad start, as they scored 16 in the first quarter. But the Storm were able to score an impressive 27 points in the opening period, which is one of the best for them so far this season.
That was possible because of the “blazing” start that Blaze Sumner was able to get off to, as he made three three-pointers on his way to scoring 15 points in the quarter.
And Hopkins Central did not slow down much in the second period, scoring 21 behind nine from Peyton Smith. This gave the Storm a 48-24 lead at the halftime break after a slower second quarter for South Fulton.
The third quarter was much closer, and saw the Storm only outscoring their opponent by one point. But they were still able to score 19 and extend their lead by a slight margin going into the fourth.
After that, all it took was them having yet another great scoring quarter with 21 to close out the game and get the dominant 88-51 win in their final game at the St. Mary Christmas Classic.
This is tied for the most points that the Storm have scored all season, with the other time they scored 88 being in a win against Caldwell County on Tuesday, December 16.
Their leading scorer in the game was Sumner with 24, and he did so with a huge first quarter. Davonyae Butcher and Devante Jagoe were also able to get it done with 18 and 14 points, respectively.
The Storm will be looking to continue their win streak in their next game against Portland on Monday, December 29. The game will be played at Franklin-Simpson and will tip off at 6 p.m.
