The Christian County Colonels went into their game against Mount Vernon having just beat the host team of Calloway County at their Hardwood Classic. But the Colonels were not able to keep their win streak alive, as they went down to Mount Vernon 69-39.

The two teams started trading threes as soon as the first quarter started, but Christian County began to have some troubles with turnovers after that. The game was tied at seven points apiece, but Mount Vernon was able to go on a bit of a run to make it 11-7 and force a timeout with just over two minutes left.

But after that, the only score the rest of the quarter was a buzzer-beating three from Mount Vernon to give them a seven point lead going into the second quarter.

Mount Vernon was able to pick up where they left off and start the second with a quick 9-0 run. That run was finally ended by Zion Acree making a floater, but that was not enough to keep Mount Vernon from taking a 32-16 lead at halftime.

The Rams were once again able to get off to a hot start to the quarter, scoring nine point compared to Christian County’s two. The Colonels were running a full court press for the majority of the quarter, but Mount Vernon was able to consistently break it and go up big going into the fourth.

The Rams scored 22 points in the third quarter, which overpowered the 10 points that the Colonels put up in the period, and it led Mount Vernon into the final quarter 54-26

After that, all it took was a big alley-oop dunk from the Rams to light a fire under them to close out the game 69-39.

The leading scorer in the game for the Colonels was Acree with nine point, and Jay Henderson was able to contribute seven of his own.

Christian County will be looking to get back on the right track in their next game against Southern on Saturday, December 27. The game will be played at South Hardin as part of the Planet Fitness Holiday Tournament, and will tip off at 1:45 p.m.
