The Lyon County Lady Lyons used a fourth-quarter rally to come from behind and take a 55-50 win over East Carter as they began defense of their 2024 title in the Kelly Holiday Classic at Bourbon County High School. The Lady Lyons entered the final 8 minutes of the game trailing 41-36 but then came charging back to take the game.
The Lady Raiders, who had won four straight coming into the game, came out strong and took a 16-12 lead after the opening quarter. Both teams put 11 points on the board in the second as East Carter took a 27-23 lead into the break.
East Carter’s defense held Lyon County to just four field goals in the third quarter as the Lady Raiders nudged the lead out to five points at 41-36.
The Lyon County trio of Piper Cotham, Trinity Taylor, and Courtney Collins took things over as the fourth quarter got underway. And, the Lyon defense allowed just three 3-pointers over the final eight minutes as the Lady Lyons came roaring back to get the five-point win.
Piper Cotham finishe the night with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Trinity Taylor and Courtney Collins also hit double figures with 11 points each. Taylor added 7 rebounds and 4 steals.
Bristol Boggs was the leading scorer for East Carter with 19 points. Jocelyn Rudd added 11 points.
Lyon County (7-3) moves on to the championship bracket semifinals Sunday where the Lady Lyons will face Fleming County.
