McCracken Rallies Past Caldwell’s Girls in Overtime

Caldwell County’s girls saw a double-digit lead disappear as they just missed reaching the championship game of the H&H Holiday Hoopfest at Logan County.

Instead, McCracken County rallied to force overtime and went on to down the Lady Tigers 44-35 in semifinal round action Saturday afternoon.

Caldwell (5-4) will play in the third-place game on Sunday, facing Carlisle County (7-3) at 2 p.m.

McCracken (7-3) will take on host Logan (6-4) at 5:30 Sunday in the tournament’s championship game.

The Lady Tigers led the Lady Mustangs 9-5 after one period in the semis and built a 20-10 lead at halftime.

McCracken cut the gap to 24-19 after three quarters, then drew even at 30-30 to send the contest to OT.

The Lady Mustangs outscored Caldwell 14-5 in the extra session.

McCracken finished the game 18 of 23 at the free throw line, including 12 of 14 in overtime.

Caldwell was 11 of 23 at the charity stripe in the contest.

Ava Hughes had 22 points for McCracken to lead all scorers and was named Player of the Game. Mason Clements added 11 points. Reagan Hill had 11 rebounds to go with five points.

Tink Clark had 19 points and was selected Player of the Game for Caldwell.

The Lady Mustangs are 4-0 all-time against Caldwell.
