Taking full advantage of their opportunities at the free throw line in the second half, the Jeffersontown Chargers pulled away in the second half to take a 75-60 win over the Hopkinsville Tigers Saturday in the Ashland Invitational. The Chargers were 18 of 26 at the free-throw line in the second half while the Tigers hit 9 of 10.
Behind a hot start from Dayvonne Harrison, Jeffersontown ran out to a 26-12 lead after the opening quarter. Hopkinsville’s defense limited J-Town to just two field goals in the second quarter as the Tigers closed to within 30-25 at the half.
The two teams came out of the break and went toe-to-toe in the third quarter, with the Chargers taking a 50-43 lead into the final 8 minutes.
The fourth quarter was almost a free-throw shooting contest between the two teams, with a total of 25 free throws shot in the quarter. Jeffersontown was able to do enough with their opportunities to pull out to the 15-point win.
Jayon Bass led the way for the Tigers with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jayven Battle added 14 points, and James Bradley Jr. ended up with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Dajuan Tharpe was the leading scorer for the Chargers with 20. Dayvonne Harrison added 18 points.
Hopkinsville (5-6) will be back in action in Ashland Sunday afternoon.
