
A pair of second-place finishes highlighted the day for Caldwell County’s girls in the Maher/Garstin Battle for Independence Saturday in Thompson’s Station, Tennessee.
Virginia Stewart was runner-up at 185 pounds and Damari Harris was runner-up at 235 to help the Lady Tigers place sixth out of 20 schools in the team standings.
All eight Caldwell wrestlers placed in the top eight of their weight classes.
Stewart won her first four matches by pin before being decisioned 5-3 by Juliana King of Independence in the championship match.
At 235, Damari Harris went 3-2 while placing second. Both of her losses came to Samantha O’Leary of Summit. All three of her wins were by pin.
Keirli Herran turned in a third-place finish at 145 pounds. After dropping her first match, Herran came back to win her next three, all by pins in under 1 minute.
Anna Urbanowski placed fifth at 152 pounds, Payten Simmins was sixth at 165, Serenity Oliver took seventh at 145, Westinn Overbey was eighth at 126 and Davine Oliver finished eighth at 185.
Caldwell totaled 101 team points to finish sixth.
Collierville won the event with 237.5. Rossview was runner-up with 190 and Independence took third with 176.5.
Next Saturday, Jan. 3, the Lady Tigers will host the annual Richey Rumble at the CAB gym.
