The Christian County Colonels went into their game against Southern at the Planet Fitness Holiday Classic having lost their last game. The team was able to bounce back win their third game in their last four, and they did so with a convincing score of 70-39.
The Colonels got right to work building their lead in the first and second quarters. The first saw Christian County outscoring the Trojans 17-10, and they were led by Tom Johnson with five points in the quarter.
His play helped the Colonels build a commanding 39-17 lead going into the halftime break.
Their lead grew exponentially in the second, as they outscored Southern 22-7. This was caused by eight points from Darren Bigbee, six of which came from shots from beyond the arc. This led him to outscore the entire Trojans team in the quarter.
The third quarter was no different, this time with the Colonels scoring 25 points, with that being their most points in a period in the game. Jay Henderson and Rahsean Stevenson were both able to score six, with the rest of the scoring being evenly dispersed.
After that, all Christian County needed to do was score six points in the fourth quarter, and they were able to close out the Trojans with a dominating 70-39 performance.
This is the first time that the Colonels have ever matched up against Southern, as they start off the all-time series with a win that will give the Trojans something to think about until they eventually meet up again.
Stevenson led Christian County in scoring, with Bigbee and Henderson both getting into double-digit with 11 apiece. Zyon Wharton and Johnson also both contributed eight points of their own.
The Colonels will be looking to begin a new win streak when they take on the host team of the Planet Fitness Holiday Classic in the South Hardin Bruins. The game will be played on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
