
A big third-quarter effort turned out to be the difference Monday for the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons. Three players scored in double figures as the Lady Maroons picked up a 50-41 win over the Mayfield Lady Cardinals in the Lady Invitational of The South at Allen County-Scottsville.
The Lady Maroons broke open a 23-23 halftime tie by scoring 24 points in the third quarter to take a 47-32 lead.
Mayfield limited Madisonville to just three points in the fourth quarter, however the Lady Maroon defense gave up just nine points to the Lady Cardinals to go on to take the 9-point win.
Kristina Western had a big game for the Lady Maroons with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Lilly Gobin added 12 points and 9 rebounds. Taylor Nelson also reached double figures with 11 points.
Lay Mayes was the only player to reach double digits for Mayfield, finishing the day with 16 points.
Madisonville-North Hopkins improves to 6-6 with the win.
