
Green County broke open a close game early and rolled to a 66-41 win over Madisonville-North Hopkins in the second round of the Lady of the South Invitational on Sunday in Scottsville.
After four lead changes early, Green County moved out to a 20-8 lead after one quarter.
The Lady Maroons could never cut further into the lead and trailed 35-22 at halftime.
Green County hit five of its seven 3-pointers in the first half, while Madisonville shot 35% in the first half.
The Lady Maroons were hobbled by 25 turnovers that led to 25 Green County points. The Lady Dragons from the 5th Region also held a 32-18 advantage in the paint.
Macy Wright continued her strong play in the first month of the season with 20 points and seven rebounds. Kristina Western came off the bench to add 10 points.
Sophomore Molly Dixon led Green County (7-3) with 20 points and eight rebounds, and freshman Isabella Clopton hit four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points.
Sunday’s game was the first between the schools in a decade. Madisonville won that one 51-43 at South Warren.
Madisonville will play Mayfield on Monday at 4:45, and they will finish play at the Lady of the South on Tuesday.
