The Trigg County Lady Wildcats went to Murray High School to take part in the Murray Bank Lady Tiger Classic, and their first game was against Dresden. They unfortunately started their time in Murray with a close 51-48 loss.
Dresden went up 8-4 halfway into the first quarter, and was up 13-6 at the end of the period as a result of Trigg’s offense staring very slow.
But the Lady Wildcats were able to pick it back up in the second quarter, scoring 20 behind 13 combined points between Alivia Norwood and Veyda Grinols. This much-improved performance in the second allowed them to take a 26-22 lead going into the halftime break.
Trigg’s offense slowed down a bit in the third, but they were still able to outscore Dresden 13-9 with some defense leading into forced turnovers. Grinols also had another six points in the quarter to help Trigg on the offensive end.
But in the fourth, it was Dresden’s turn to explode, and they started out by cutting the Trigg lead to four with just under six minutes left and forcing a timeout. The game was then tied at 44 apiece, and Dresden was able to take the lead with some free throws.
As time winded down, Trigg was forced to start fouling, and Dresden was able to make their free throws to close out the game 51-48.
Grinols led the way in scoring for the Lady Wildcats with 17, and she did so by getting to the rim and converting. Cali Jones was also able to contribute 14 points of her own.
Trigg County’s next game will be against the Todd County Central Lady Rebels on Tuesday. The game will once again be played at Murray High School as part of the Murray Bank Classic, and it will tip off at 10 a.m.
