Maroons Knock Off Western Hills at East Jessamine

The Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons had their best offensive output of the season as they closed out their appearance in the East Jessamine Holiday Basketball Tournament with a 76-66 win over Western Hills. The Maroons broke a 44-44 halftime tie coming out in the third quarter and then held off the Wolverines to get their second win of the season.

Both teams came out firing in this one. Western Hills would take a 26-22 lead after the first quarter. Lake Sumner had a big start for the Maroons with 9 points on three 3-pointers.

Madisonville kept the offense rolling in the second and was able to slow down the Wolverines enough to pull even at 44-44 at the break. Sumner had another big quarter, bringing him to 16 points at the half.

The Maroon defense limited Western Hills to just four field goals in the third as Madisonville was able to work its way out to a 58-52 lead going into the final quarter.

With the Wolverines pushing to catch up in the final quarter, the Maroons did what they needed to at the line, making 10 of 14 free throws over the final 8 minutes to secure the 10-point win.

Lake Sumner ended up with 30 points, half of them coming on five 3-pointers. The Maroon ‘Prophets’, Jeremyah Sharp and Jeremiah Lewis, added 12 points each. Deacon Dever, Orion Underwood, and Gavin Oldham scored six points apiece.

Preston Clouse led all scorers with 31 points for Western Hills. Bryce Douglas chipped in with 13 points.

Madisonville-North Hopkins (2-9) goes back on the road Saturday to Grayson County to take on Bullitt East in the New Years Classic.
