One thing was sure Tuesday and that was that the Lady Maroons were going to win. A big offensive rebounding performance in the first half got the Pulaski County Lady Maroons off to a good start and from there they cruised to a 70-40 win over the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons Tuesday in the Lady Invitational of The South at Allen County-Scottsville.
Crashing the glass early and often, Pulaski County got out to a 22-15 lead after the opening quarter. The Lady Maroons from the east then extended the lead to 44-24 at the break.
In addition to the rebounding struggles, Madisonville shot just 36.8 percent for the half. And that would be blazing hot compared to what happened in the second half.
Madisonville would hit just 3 of 26 shots over the final 16 minutes of the game as Pulaski County pulled away. Pulaski led 54-32 after three and then rode it on out for the 30-point win.
Lilly Gobin had 10 points to lead the Lady Maroons. JaMia Harris added 9 points and Taylor Nelson finished with 7 points.
Brooklynn Thomas was the top scorer for Pulaski County with 21 points. Hannah Murray ended up with 13 points.
Big story in the game was rebounding, as Pulaski County won the battle of the board 53-30 with 24 of those rebounds coming off the offensive glass.
Madisonville-North Hopkins (6-7) kicks off the New Year Friday night as the Lady Maroons hit the road to Union County.
