
Trigg County and Todd County Central faced off on Tuesday in the seventh-place game at the Murray Bank Classic at Murray High School. It was the Lady Wildcats who were able to come out on top against the Lady Rebels with a score of 55-40.
Both teams got off to a very slow start, with the score tied at 2 points apiece about halfway through the first quarter. Todd County took a three-point lead into a timeout with just under two minutes left to play, and they went up 8-3 at the end of the period.
Trigg was able to cut the lead in the second, and Ajalise Navarro tied the game at 12 apiece with a big layup. The Lady Wildcats then went on a big run to end the quarter and take a 21-12 lead at halftime.
The Lady Wildcats came out strong in the third quarter with a 9-2 run, which helped their lead continue to grow. Both teams traded three-pointers by the end of the period, and Trigg extended their lead to 16 by the start of the fourth.
They were led by Veyda Grinols, who had an impressive nine points just in the third quarter.
The Lady Rebels were able to score 18 points in the third quarter behind seven from Chloe Collins, but Trigg was able to score 17 with 10 from Grinols. This helped them close out the game 55-40 and take seventh place at the Murray Bank Classic.
Grinols led the way in scoring for the Lady Wildcats with 25 points over the course of the game, and she did a lot of her work from the charity stripe. Navarro was also able to get into double-digits with 15, with nine of them coming from beyond the arc.
As for Todd County, Daymea Garrett finished with 11 points, and Aziyah Tandy also got into double-digits with 10.
It was Trigg’s first win over Todd County Central in four years, but the Lady Rebels lead the all-time series 36-6.
The Lady Wildcats will be looking to build on this win in their next game on Monday, January 5, against the Fulton City Lady Bulldogs. The game will tip off at 6 p.m. at Trigg.
On the other side, Todd County is still in search of its second win, and it will get another chance at it on Saturday, January 3, against East Robertson. Their game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Todd County Central High School.
