The Union County Braves had won their last five games going into their Friday night matchup with Lyon County, and the Lyons were able to snap that streak with an 80-53 win at home.

The game started off back and forth between the two teams, but Nolan Coffman was able to score five straight points to end the quarter and put the Lyons up 22-14.

They started off the second as hot as they finished the first, scoring six unanswered points to start, and Union’s first bucket didn’t come until two minutes in. But after their fast scoring to start the period, Lyon didn’t score again until four minutes in when Coffman made a tough layup.

But after that, the Lyons were really able to find their stride, and Jett Reddick threw down a fast break dunk to put them up 19. Union was able to make a three, but Bray Kirk came right back wit ha layup in the final seconds, and Lyon went into the halftime break with a 43-25 lead.

The Lyons came out of the break on fire from three with Kirk making two, and Cooper Collins making one of his own. The lead grew to and passed 30 points, and ended up being 69-37 by the time the fourth rolled around.

The final quarter saw Lyon putting in their subs just four minutes in, and they were able to do enough and close it out to get the 80-53 victory.

This is now the fifth time in a row the Lyons have beat the Braves, as the last time Union County got the better of Lyon was back in February of 2018.

Kirk led the way in scoring for the Lyons with an impressive 30 points, and he did so with six made shots from beyond the arc. Coffman was also able to contribute 15 of his own, also putting in some shots from deep.

Lyon County will be looking to start a win streak in their next game on Tuesday, January 6, against the Tigers of Caldwell County on the road. This game will be played as part of the All A Classic, and is set to tip off at 6 p.m.
