
It’s hard enough to win a game when you can’t get shots to fall. It’s even harder when you can’t get any shots off. The Lyon County Lady Lyons limited Fort Campbell to just one shot in the first quarter as the Lady Lyons roared to an 80-18 road win in the quarterfinal round of the Girls 2nd Region All A Classic.
The Lady Lyon defensive pressure at the beginning of the game made it beyond difficult for the Lady Falcons to advance the ball into front court. Lyon County forced turnovers that turned into runout layups as the Lady Lyons pitched a shutout in the first quarter, taking a 25-0 lead.
A basket early in the second extended the game-opening run to 27 straight points. Fort Campbell finally broke through when Ja’leighyna Cabrera scored with 6:52 to go in the half, making it a 27-2 game.

Lyon County responded with a 10-0 run to extend the lead to 37-2 with 3:20 left in the half. The Lady Lyons would head into the break leading 47-5. Trinity Taylor and Piper Cotham combined to score 20 points in the second quarter, most of those on layups.
Lyon County was 21 of 42 from the field in the opening half, while the Lady Falcons were 2 of 12. The Lady Lyons also outrebounded Fort Campbell 21-7 in the half.
Lyon County continued to pull away as the second half got started with the starters heading to the bench midway through the third. The quarter ended with the Lady Lyons up 67-14.
Lyon County reserves played a solid final 8 minutes, outscoring the Lady Falcons 13-4.

Trinity Taylor led the Lady Lyons with 23 points and moved into the #5 spot on the all-time scoring list for Lyon County girls basketball. Piper Cotham finished her night with 22 points. Courtney Collins scored 9 points while Jenna Coursey and Eve Defew added 6 points each.
Kyndal Bradley led Fort Campbell with 8 points. A’mari Grimsley ended up with 6 points.
Fort Campbell (0-3) is now off until next Wednesday, January 14, when the Lady Falcons will host Northeast.
Round 2 of Lyon County-Crittenden County is now set up for Thursday night in the Girls 2nd Region All A Classic semifinals at Dawson Springs. Crittenden County won earlier this season 53-51 in overtime in Marion.
Both teams will enter the contest with records of 11-3.
