Calloway County moved into the championship of the Class 2A sectional with a 71-28 win over Trigg County in Tuesday’s semifinal at Hopkins County Central.

The Lady Lakers remain unbeaten at 16-0 and will play Hopkins County Central in Thursday’s championship as they look to get back to the 2A state tournament for a third straight season.

Calloway used a 20-0 first quarter run as they scored 14 points off eight Trigg turnovers to lead 25-4 after the first eight minutes.

Sayler Lowe was perfect from the field for Calloway, hitting all eight of her field goal attempts, including two 3-pointers, and scored 18 points. Lowe, who has signed to play college basketball at North Alabama, upped her career point total to 2,757 points and needs 33 points to pass Charlee Settle to become Calloway County’s all-time leading scorer.

Lowe’s perfect night from the field was part of Calloway’s precision shooting from inside the arc. The Lady Lakers hit 14 of 16 of their two-point shots in the first half as they built a 44-14 lead at the break. They finished the game 21 of 36 (58%) inside the arc.

Trigg County’s offense was the opposite. The Lady Wildcats made just seven field goals, with six coming from long range. Trigg turned the ball over 30 times, leading to 40 Calloway points. The Lady Lakers outscored Trigg 42-2 in the paint.

Olivia Perkins scored 14 points, and Jaidan Koch, who is fifth on Calloway’s all-time scoring list with 1,736 points, scored 10 points and handed out seven assists.

Alivia Norwood, who hit seven 3-pointers Monday against Fulton City, added three more on Tuesday and finished with nine points. A.J. Navarro also connected on three shots from long range and finished with a team-high 10 points.

The win was Calloway County’s 17th straight over Trigg County, dating back to 1984. Calloway leads the all-time series 22-2.

The Lady Lakers and Lady Storm meet Thursday at 6:00 in the sectional championship.

Trigg County returns to the floor on Friday at McCracken County.
