The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers went into their Tuesday evening game against Owensboro looking for their second win of the season. Unfortunately they were not able to get it, and they went down to the Lady Devils 66-27 on the road.
The Lady Tigers immediately got themselves in some trouble in the first quarter, only scoring three points in the first eight minutes. Serenity Ewing was able to make a free throw, and Laelah Watkins was able to make the only field goal of the period for Hopkinsville.
They had a bit better of a second quarter, but it was still just seven points. The only field goals in the period came from Ewing and Brianna Johnson, and that led the Lady Tigers to be down 33-10 at the half.
The Lady Devils’ offense was able to explode in the third quarter with 24 points, while Hopkinsville scored nine. Braelyn Gaines was able to make a three-pointer, which was the Lady Tigers’ only made shot from beyond the arc in the game.
After that, all it took was a nine-point quarter from Owensboro to close out the game 66-27 and get their second straight win.
This is the second time in a row with the Lady Tigers that Owensboro has been able to win, as the last time Hopkinsville won the matchup was back in February of 2022.
Ewing was the leading scorer in the game for the Lady Tigers with eight points, and Watkins was also able to contribute six of her own.
Hopkinsville will keep searching for their second win of the season in their next game on Friday, January 9, against the Christian County Lady Colonels. Their game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. at Christian County High School.
