A step towards the top seed in the 8th District tournament and a win over their in-town rivals on their home court for the final time in the regular season, that was the story for the Christian County Lady Colonels Friday night. Christian County led wire to wire in claiming a 66-33 win over the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers.

Christian County jumped out to a fast start, scoring the first eight points. With the defense forcing Hopkinsville into ball handling issues, the lead grew to 15-1 before a late basket for the Lady Tigers cut the margin to 12 at 15-3.

Both teams had their issues holding on to the ball in the second quarter as the Lady Colonels and the Lady Tigers combined for 19 miscues in the quarter. Hopkinsville was able to stay within shouting distance thanks to a strong effort on the glass. Still, Christian County was able to nudge the lead out to 25-11 at the half.

A big part of that was the play of senior Anaysia Bagwell, who scored 10 points in the half.

The turnovers were a big concern for Hopkinsville in the half, as the Lady Tigers coughed the ball up 19 times for the half. Christian County ended the half with a total of 13 turnovers.

The Lady Colonels came out of the break and began the process of putting the game away. A 12-3 run to open the half extended the lead to 37-14. With Genesis McGee and Carliah Hobson controlling things down in the paint on the offensive end, the margin continued to grow, reaching 54-22 at the end of the third.

McGee and Hobson combined to score 19 points in the quarter.

A basket by McGee with just over six minutes to go in the game brought the running clock into effect at 60-24. From there it was simply a matter of playing it out to the final margin of 33 points.

Anaysia Bagwell led the way for the Lady Colonels with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Genesis McGee added 15 points, 13 of them in the second half. Carliah Hobson scored 11 points, 9 in the second half, and Adreyona Smith finished with 8 points.

Kaveyah White was the leading scorer for Hopkinsville with 11 points. Serenity Ewing added 9 points and 8 rebounds. Laelah Watkins also had 9 points for the Lady Tigers.

Turnovers told a big part of the story in the game as Hopkinsville had 32 for the game. Christian County also had some issue with ball security, being charged with 18 turnovers for the night.

The win was the 4th straight in the series for the Lady Colonels.

Hopkinsville (1-9) is now off until next Friday when the Lady Tigers go on the road to Hopkins County Central.

Christian County (7-6) was supposed to play Saturday against Heritage Christian but that game has been forfeited. The Lady Colonels are now off until January 20 when they take on Henderosn County.
