For the second straight game, Trigg County battled one of the top teams in the First Region and came out on the short end. On Friday, it was a 63-30 loss at McCracken County as part of the school’s Mustang Madness.

The loss came three days after a 43-point loss to Calloway County in the Class 2A sectionals.

For Trigg County, it was the same story that has plagued them the entire season – turnovers. The Lady Wildcats made 27 of them that led to 35 McCracken County points.

The Lady Mustangs jumped out to a 17-2 lead and were never seriously threatened in the contest.

McCracken County managed to get all 12 players into the scoring column, with no starter playing more than 14 minutes.

Maddie Ault and Arri Brison each scored 10 points, part of a 31-point night from McCracken County’s bench.

Veyda Grinols scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Trigg County, who also got six points from A.J. Navarro. The Lady Wildcats did hold a 33-17 advantage on the glass but were outscored 32-14 in the paint.

The win was the 542nd for McCracken County coach Scott Sivills, a Trigg County alum and member of the TCHS Athletic Hall of Fame. He is 214-104 in his 11th season at McCracken County and ranks in the top 15 all-time in wins by Kentucky girls’ basketball coaches.

The tough schedule for Trigg County precludes three consecutive district games, the first on Tuesday at Crittenden County.
