The Lyon County Lyons and the Crittenden County Rockets faced off at Fort Campbell in the 2nd Region All A Classic semifinals on Friday night. After snapping a 51-game losing streak, Crittenden was met with a powerhouse in Lyon, and the Rockets fell 83-24.
The Lyons got out to a hot 12-0 start, as the first Crittenden bucket didn’t come for two and a half minutes when the Rockets were able to score a fast break layup. Bray Kirk scored nine points in the first eight minutes, and that led Lyon to have a commanding 27-5 lead going into the second.
The next quarter was more of the same, and the Lyons were able to outscore the Rockets 25-9. Nolan Coffman scored six points in the period, and that was a big factor in Lyon taking a 41-7 lead halfway through the quarter, and going into the half up 52-14.
None of Lyon’s starters touched the floor in the second half, as the subs had the reins for the remainder of the game. River Cotham was able to get hot in the third quarter with a pair of threes and a floater, which allowed him to lead the team in scoring for the quarter.
And the fourth had more excitement than one might have expected, as senior Jake Cowan checked into the game and scored five points, which got the Lyon bench up and excited. This was more than enough to finish out the game, and Lyon came away with the dominant 83-24 victory.
Despite not playing at all in the second half, Kirk still led the team in scoring with 13 points. Coffman, Cotham, and Isaac Defew were also all able to score in double-digits as well.
The Lyons will face off against the University Heights Academy Blazers on Saturday in the All A title game, and the Lyons won that matchup the last time the two teams faced in the championship game. The rematch is set to tip off at 7 p.m. at Fort Campbell High School.
