Hopkins County Central’s cheer squad tied for 11th place at the KHSAA State Cheer Competition, just missing a top-10 finish by one-tenth of a point.

Their score of 84.90 in the highly competitive Game Day Large Division was a 9.3-point improvement over their region runner-up finish. Region champion McCracken County finished 19th.

Daviess County won the state championship with a score of 95.80, with seven squads scoring 86 or higher.

The Game Day Large Division consists of squads between 20 and 30 members. Hopkins Central finished 17th in the division at state last year, marking the fifth straight year the school has competed at state.

Saturday’s state championship was originally scheduled for early December but was postponed due to bad weather in central Kentucky.
