The Fort Campbell Falcons went into their Monday evening matchup against Webster County on the road looking to snap their losing streak. They were unfortunately unable to do that, as the Trojans shot a very high percentage from the field and got the win 90-42.
The Falcons started off the game with a 13-point first quarter, and were led by Tyreek Anthony with seven points in the first eight minutes. Unfortunately for them, Webster came out of the gates hot with 22 points to take control of the game early.
The second quarter was more of the same, with the Falcons once again scoring 13 points, and the Trojans being able to get some easy buckets and score 29. Anthony and Garrett Vanetta were able to combine for 10 points in the period, but that did not stop Webster from taking a commanding 51-26 lead into the half.
Fort Campbell was hoping that Webster would slow down a bit after the halftime break, but that did not happen. The Trojans scored 27 in the third, and they did so by getting to the rim seemingly at will. Joseph Katz and Anthony had eight of the team’s 10 in the period, but the Falcons went down big going into the fourth.
The final quarter is finally where the Trojans slowed down, but they were able to coast with 12 points in the final eight minutes and get the win 90-42.
Webster shot 40-57 from the floor, and had 22 layups out of their 35 baskets that came inside the three-point line.
Anthony led the Falcons in scoring with 16 points, 12 of which came in the first half. Vanetta also got into double-digits with 11 points and a pair of made three-pointers.
This is now the 15th time in a row that Webster has gotten the best of the Fort Campbell, as the Falcons last win against the Trojans came back in January of 2007. They will be looking for revenge, as they will match up once again with Webster in the last game of the season.
But for now, the Falcons will be looking to break their losing streak in their next game on Tuesday, January 13, against Russellville. The game will begin at 7 p.m. at Fort Campbell High School.
