Looking to put the brakes on a four-game skid, the Fort Campbell Falcons instead saw a 4th-quarter lead evaporate in a 55-52 loss to visiting Russellville on Tuesday. The Panthers’ late rally snapped a two-game skid and dropped Fort Campbell to 4-11 ahead of a trip to Heritage Christian Academy on Friday.
Fort Campbell’s Tyreek Anthony and Russellville’s Jamarion Gardner canceled each other out with five points apiece, and the Panthers held a slim 11-10 advantage after the first quarter. Gardner added four points in the second to help Russellville extend the advantage to 27-20 at the halftime break.
However, the Falcons came back out of the locker room on fire, led by seven points from Garrett Vannatta and 10 combined by Kyre Ferguson and Joseph Katz. Fort Campbell outscored the Panthers 21-11 to surge in front 41-38 with a quarter left to play.
Ferguson kept the hot hand in the fourth with seven more points for the Falcons on the way to a team-high 17, but it wouldn’t be enough to hold off Russellville. Jerius Coleman scored five for the Panthers, LaBryan Nourse added four, and Gardner capped a 22-point night with four to lead the comeback.
Nourse joined Gardner in double figures with 10 points to help the Panthers improve to 11-5.
Vannatta finished with 14 points and seven rebounds for Fort Campbell, Katz added nine and eight, and Anthony posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
