The Todd County Central Rebels basketball team went into their Tuesday evening matchup with Greenwood looking to snap their losing streak. They were unfortunately unable to do that and ended up dropping their fifth straight, an 81-61 loss to the Gators.
Conner Holder led the team to 15 points in the first quarter, as he was able to score nine on three made shots from beyond the arc. But to the dismay of the Rebels, Greenwood was able to hit four threes in the quarter and score 20 to take an early lead.
It was more of the same in the second, with the Gators getting hot from three and extending their lead despite a solid 17-point quarter from Todd Central. This time, it was John Ross Cardwell leading the team in scoring with six, but that did not stop the team from going down 45-32 at the half.
The Gators continued their shooting clinic with four deep bombs in the third, and that led them to another 20-point quarter. Noah Rager had five points in the period, but the rest of the Rebels were only able to score seven.
And despite 11 from Spencer Pool in the fourth quarter, the Gators closed out the game and got the win, 81-61.
This is now the 18th loss in a row the Rebels have suffered at the hands of Greenwood, as the last time they got the better of the Gators was back in February of 2001.
Spencer Pool was able to lead Todd Central in points with 21, and he did so by getting to the rim. Holder and Rager were also able to get into double-digits with 14 and 10, respectively.
The Rebels will be hoping to get back on the right track in their next game on Friday, January 16, against Logan County. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Logan County High School.
