Trigg County used a 24-5 second-half run to gain control of its game with Crittenden County and hand the Rockets an 80-47 loss on Tuesday at Rocket Arena.

The win came in the district opener for the Wildcats, whose district schedule included an overhaul this year to push its district schedule past the Christmas break for the first time in several years.

Trigg County coach Michael Fraliex credited an increase in conditioning for the Wildcats’ second-half surge after they faded in the second half in losses to Hickman County, Fort Campbell, and Cheatham County Central.

And Trigg’s second-half stats on Tuesday don’t lie.

The Wildcats hit 18 of 26 shots from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Defensively, Trigg came up with 15 of its 19 steals after the break.

Landon Swann hit for a career-high 35 points, scoring 14 points in the critical third quarter that saw Trigg County turn a one-point halftime lead into a 56-37 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

Fraliex has moved senior Davaree Gude to the point, and he responded with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists while knocking down 6 of 7 shots.

Karmelo Dixon added 12 points and five rebounds for the Wildcats, who have scored 80 points in consecutive games for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

Conner Poindexter topped Crittenden County with 10 points.

Trigg was able to score 30 points off 28 Crittenden turnovers and outrebounded the Rockets 37-30. Zammarion Broussard added nine rebounds and four steals for Trigg.

Trigg County has won seven straight over the Rockets, including a win in the St. Mary Christmas Classic last month that does not factor into the district standings. The teams will meet again on February 3 in Cadiz.
