Lyon County Buries Trigg Early for Homecoming Win

In the 179-game series between Trigg County and Lyon County that dates back to 1948, the Lyons are enjoying their longest stretch of wins. Lyon County added another one on Friday with a 95-28 homecoming win over the Wildcats at Jason White Gymnasium.

It was the 19th straight win for Lyon County in the series, with Triggs’ last win coming in 2017. The Lyons have been even more dominant in their last 11 wins, averaging a 45-point margin.

Lyon County used a suffocating press to jump out to an 11-0 lead in the first 90 seconds. The Lyons would later add a 23-0 run in the opening quarter and led 44-9 after the first eight minutes.

Trigg County had 14 turnovers in the first quarter, which led to 31 Lyon County points, as the Lyons hit 16 of 23 shots from the field.

Lyon County added a 13-0 run in the second quarter and led 69-18 at halftime.

For the game, Lyon County scored 46 points off 31 Trigg County turnovers and outrebounded the Wildcats 39-20, which led to 23 second-chance points.

Nolan Coffman scored 21 points and had six of Lyon County’s 27 steals. Bray Kirk added 20 points, 4 steals, and 4 assists, and Carson Collins chipped in with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 steals.

Landon Swann scored 8 points for the Wildcats, and Karmelo Dixon added five points.

Davaree Gude, Trigg County’s second leading scorer, turned his ankle in the second quarter and had two points and two assists in just eight minutes of action.

Lyon County is now 12-5 as they play Lighthouse Christian Academy of Hendersonville, Tennessee, on Monday in the Graves County Eagle Classic. The Lyons then make the trip to Owensboro for the All A Classic State Tournament where they will play either Mayfield or Carlisle County on Thursday night.

Trigg County fell to 4-11 after Friday’s loss, the second-worst in school history, behind only a 124-51 loss to Elkton in 1951.

The Wildcats will host Livingston Central on Monday at Wildcat Gym.
