Colonels Wrestle to Second Place at Tilghman Invitational

Christian County had four wrestlers at the top of the medal podium and finished second on Saturday at the Paducah Tilghman Steve Johnston Memorial Invitational.

Anthony Velasco won the 113-pound class and upped his season record to 21-4. He defeated Fort Campbell’s Ryker Kramer 17-2 in the championship match.

Defending region champion Dane Miller continues to cruise along in the 144-pound class this season. He won three matches to claim the championship and improve his season mark to 22-3.

He defeated Fort Campbell’s Eithan Cassell 17-2 in the championship match.

Deacon Harrison won the 157-pound class with a 6-3 decision over Paducah Tilghman’s Evan Pyles. Harrison’s season record now stands at 17-4.

Malachi James came in second place in the 106-pound class. He lost a tough 7-6 decision to Paducah Tilghman’s Christian Prieto-Bottoms in the championship match. James’ season record stands at 17-7.

Ben Benzel finished fourth in the 106-pound class. One of those losses came to his teammate, James, in the second round. He won four matches on Saturday by pin before losing to Ohio County’s Josh Athey in the third-place match.

Nathan Harrison finished seventh in the 126-pound class, taking his final match of the day in a 9-0 major decision.

Braylon Patla came in fourth place in the 132-pound class. He won three matches on Saturday and upped his season record to 14-7.

Marquis Hart came in fourth place at 138. His three wins Saturday push his record to 13-7.

Joshua Cohoon came in fourth place in the 165-pound class.

DeAsian Harris finished in fifth place in the 190-pound class as he got a pin in 25 seconds to claim his final win and push his season record to 20-10.

Treshawn Crenshaw finished third in the 285-pound class. He rallied to win four straight matches after losing his opener in a 5-4 decision. Crenshaw’s season mark is 18-7.

The Colonels totaled 181.5 points to finish 54.5 points behind the champion Paducah Tilghman. Ohio County was third with 126 points.
