The Fort Campbell Falcons went into their Saturday afternoon matchup with Fort Knox having won their last game against Heritage Christian Academy. They started a win streak with a 61-29 win over the Eagles, their first ever.
Both teams got off to a very slow start, as the game was tied at two points apiece. But in the next two minutes, the Falcons went on a quick 6-0 run. That, as well as a Tyreek Anthony three-pointer to end the quarter, helped Fort Campbell take a 15-5 lead after the first eight minutes.
With 6:28 left to play in the second, Anthony was able to put in another three, which propelled him past the 1,000-point mark for his high school career. That, as well as a Garrett VanNetta three-pointer in the final seconds, helped Fort Campbell’s lead get all the way to 22 at halftime.
The Falcons continued to take control of the game in the third with a 16-2 run to start the quarter. This led them to take a 57-23 lead at the end of the third, and the subs came in to close out the game in the fourth and get the 61-29 victory.
This was the fourth time Fort Campbell has faced Fort Knox, and it is the first time the Falcons have won the matchup.
Anthony led the Falcons in scoring with 26, and he did so with 18 points in the first half alone. Vanetta was also able to get into double-digits with 17 points of his own over the course of the game.
Fort Campbell will be looking for their third win in a row in their next game on Saturday, January 24, against the Lakers of Calloway County. Their game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at Fort Campbell High School.
