If Monday’s game is any indication, the Lyon County Lyons appear to be quite ready for this week’s All A Classic in Owensboro. The Lyons were laser focused from behind the 3–point line and with their defensive pressure as they simply overpowered Lighthouse Christian Academy 81-29 in the Eagles’ Classic at Graves County High School.

Things were promising for a brief moment for the Lions from Tennessee, a brief moment. Lighthouse Christian scored the first basket of the game to take a 2-0 lead. And then it all fell apart.

In the blink of an eye, Lighthouse Christian found itself on the wrong end of one of those famed Lyon County runs. Lyon County’s pressure defense came up with steal after steal during a 19-0 run as Lighthouse Christian’s ball-handling issues took the Lions out of the game before it ever really got started.

The opening quarter would end with Lyon County holding a 21-4 lead.

Things got no better for Lighthouse Christian in the second quarter. The Lions continued to turn the ball over and, to compound things even further, the Lyons, who had seen troubles shooting the ball from behind the arc, were starting to get hot from behind the line.

Lyon County would end up knocking down five 3-pointers in the second quarter as the lead ballooned to 50-13 at the half. For the half, the Lyons made a total of seven shots from behind the 3-point line, 3 from Cooper Collins, and two each from Bray Kirk and Nolan Coffman.

Kirk led the Lyons at the half with 17 points, while Coffman and Isaac Defew added 10 points each.

With the 37 point lead at the half, the second half began with the running clock in effect.

Even with the clock in ‘go mode’, the Lyons did not slow down much in the third quarter. Lyon County scored the final 18 points of the third and the lead exploded out to 73-20. Lyon County continued to blister the nets from behind the arc, knocking down five more 3-pointers in the quarter, four of them coming from Nolan Coffman.

Lyon County reserves would play the rest of the game as the Lyons improved to 13-5 on the season.

Four Lyon County players hit double figures on the day, led by Nolan Coffman with 24 points, including six made 3-pointers. Bray Kirk finished with 19 points, 17 of them in the opening half. Isaac Defew added 14 points and Cooper Collins finished with 12 points on four made 3-pointers.

Lyon County now gets ready for their opening round game of the All A Classic Thursday night at the Owensboro Sportscenter against the Mayfield Cardinals. That game is scheduled to tip off Thursday night at 9:30pm.
