It’s hard to make your own mark when you come from a large athletic family, but Courtney Collins is doing just that midway through her junior year.
Courtney is an All-District athlete at Lyon County who puts up All-Region numbers in both basketball and softball. She is also the youngest of four siblings who have all represented Lyon County at the state tournament level.
Courtney is the second leading scorer (13.1 ppg.) and leading rebounder (8.1 reb.) for the Lady Lyons, who won the All A Classic region title and advanced to the All A State Tournament last week in Owensboro. It was there she scored her 1,000th career point, joining her older sister Calista, who scored 1,289 points in her Lyon County career.
But there’s more than just points to Courtney’s stat line. She leads the team in shooting behind the arc at 37% after leading the team in that category last year. Courtney also needs 33 rebounds to reach 1,000 for her career, joining her sister in that category as well.
When the hardwood season ends, Courtney will hit the diamond where she hit .429 with three home runs and 25 RBI while anchoring down the shortstop position for the Lady Lyons in 2025. Her numbers earned her Class 1A All-State honors from the state’s coaches. She has 14 homers in her Lyon County career and is a .412 hitter.
In this YSE Spotlight Athlete interview, Courtney talks about the level of family competitiveness, quickly adjusting to different sports, and how Calista, who played Division 1 softball, provides guidance on her future.
Parker Eye Care sponsors the YSE Spotlight Athlete and features an athlete who excels in one or more sports.
