Hopkins Central Hands Madisonville-North Hopkins Seventh Straight Loss

The Hopkins County Central Storm and the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons had both lost their previous game heading into their matchup against one another. It was the Storm who were able to bounce back, and they did so with a 68-62 victory on the road against their rival.

The game was tied at four points apiece in the early going, but Hopkins Central’s Devante Jagoe made a three and a tough layup to put the Storm up 9-4. After that, the two teams started trading blows, and the game was tied once again at 15 after a technical against Central.

Madisonville was losing as the quarter winded down, but Orion Underwood was able to make a three-pointer as the buzzer sounded to put the Maroons up 20-19 after the first eight minutes.

The Storm took that to heart, as they outscored the Maroons 13-3 before a timeout in the second, which was caused by a Blaze Sumner three. Madisonville came right back with a 7-0 run, bit was not enough to keep them from going down 41-34 at the half.

Central’s Davonyae Butcher made a big three in the third quarter, and that helped them outscore Madisonville 12-4 to start the period and force a timeout.

The Maroons were able to get some buckets of their own after that, and Lake Sumner cut the lead to just six with a made shots from beyond the arc. Going into the fourth and final quarter, Madisonville was down 55-49 and had some momentum.

Hopkins Central was able to slow down Madisonville and make the final period very back and forth to start. Lake Sumner was able to cut the lead to just one with a floater, and after a free throw from Central, Jeremiah Lewis tied it up for the Maroons at 61.

But the Storm started to get some stops and score off of them, with Samari Pettis and Jagoe were both making layups to make it 65-61. After that, Hopkins Central was able to make their free throws and close out the game 68-62.

This is now the second time in a row that the Storm have beat the Maroons, with them losing the previous four before that.

Their leading scorer in the game was Jagoe with 23, and he did so by getting to the rim with consistency. Pettus and Channing Stone were also able to get into double-digits with 18 and 10, respectively.

The Maroons also had three players score at least 10, with the leader being Lewis with 17. The other two to score in double-digits were Lake Sumner with 15 and Jeremyah Sharp with 13.

Madisonville will be looking to snap their losing streak in their next game on Friday, January 23, against the Panthers of Dawson Springs. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. from Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.

As for the Storm, they will be hoping that they can start a win streak in their next game against Caldwell County also on Friday. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Caldwell County High School.
