Lady Wildcats Down Fort Campbell, Move Above .500

Trigg County has followed a four-game losing streak with three straight wins to get above .500 for the first time in three weeks.

The Lady Wildcats scored the first 26 points of the game and defeated Fort Campbell 56-17 at Wildcat Gym on Thursday.

Trigg County turned up its press early and led 23-0 after one quarter. They played a zone defense for the rest of the game and extended their lead over the Lady Falcons in the second and third quarters.

Trigg County scored 34 points off 28 Fort Campbell turnovers and held a 38-23 advantage on the glass.

Veyda Grinols hit for 18 points for Trigg County and added six rebounds and five steals. A.J. Navarro scored nine points and added five steals, and Cali Jones had eight points and seven rebounds.

Fort Campbell did not score a point when both Navarro or Jones were on the floor.

Alexis Mays added eight points and three assists for Trigg County.

Fort Campbell played the first half without its top two scorers. A’Mari Grimsley led the Lady Falcons with eight points, all in the second half, while Molly Hopper added four points and three rebounds before fouling out.

The win was Trigg County’s 10th straight over Fort Campbell, although the Lady Falcons still lead the all-time series 37-36.

Fort Campbell is scheduled to host St. Mary on Saturday, although that game is very doubtful due to the weekend weather. They will host Heritage Christian Academy on Thursday, January 29th.

Trigg County will host Stewart County on Tuesday and Caldwell County next Thursday.
