The University Heights Academy Blazers went into their game against Webster County looking to snap their losing streak. They were not able to do that, as the Colonels took advantage of their home floor to get the 64-51 victory.

The Blazers got off to a very solid start in the first quarter with 18 points, but Webster also came out of the gates swinging. KeShawn Moore and Nash McAfee combined for 10 points in the first eight minutes, but it was not enough to keep the Colonels from taking the lead 19-18.

In the second, UHA slowed down quite a bit with just nine points in the quarter. McAfee scored five of the team’s nine, but Webster’s Caleb Bumpus and Gage Hardrick combined for right of the Colonels’ 13 in the period.

This led to the Blazers being down 32-27 at the halftime break.

After coming out of the locker room, UHA’s Moore was able to score six points in the third quarter. Unfortunately, the rest of the team only scored five, which let the Colonels take a bit more control with a seven point lead going into the final period.

If there was any doubt heading into the fourth quarter, Webster was able to score 19 points in the final eight minutes to finish off the Blazers and get the 64-51 win.

This is now the second time in a row that University Heights has fallen to Webster County, as the last win the Blazers were able to get a win over the Colonels was back in December of 2022.

Moore led the Blazers in scoring with 18 points over the course of the game, 13 of which came in the second half. McAfee was also able to get into double-digits with 16 and four made shots from beyond the arc.

UHA will be looking to snap their losing streak in their next game on Tuesday, January 27, against Bowling Green. If weather permits, their game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Bowling Green High School.
