Lady Storm Rolls at Caldwell to Continue 7th District Run

Hopkins County Central continued its march through the 7th District with a resounding 64-32 victory at Caldwell County Friday night.

The Lady Storm is now 13-7 overall and 5-0 against district foes. Hopkins Central has secured the No. 1 seed for the district tournament, which will be played next month in Mortons Gap.

Friday’s contest was never in doubt after the Lady Storm scored the first 17 points of the night.

It was 14-0 after one quarter.

Caldwell did not get on the scoreboard until Ke’Darriah Thompson converted the second of two free throws with 7:16 left on the second quarter.

Caldwell went almost 13 minutes without a field goal. The Lady Tigers ended the drought on Laylay Shearer’s layup on a runout with 3:05 left in the first half.

By that point, Hopkins Central led 24-5.

Calajia Mason scored all of her 16 points in the first half as the Lady Storm built a 29-9 advantage at the break.

Mason was Hopkins Central’s only double-digit scorer as the Lady Storm was able to spread around its scoring.

Niyla Liles finished with seven points while Marlee Thomas, Macy Cotton, Tyah White, Rhyan Beverly, Braylee Marsh and Amelia Smith each scored six points.

Hopkins Central led by as much as 34 points in the fourth quarter.

Caldwell got nine points from Shearer and eight from Thompson. Tink Clark added six.

Hopkins Central has taken 12 straight from Caldwell. The Lady Storm leads all-time 44-30.

The Lady Storm is scheduled to finish regular-season district play next Friday when it hosts Dawson Springs. Those two teams will also meet in the district tourney semifinals.

The Lady Tigers will host Madisonville-North Hopkins next Friday, but those two teams will meet in the district semifinals regardless of the outcome.
