Safety Ty Bryant was one of the bright spots for Kentucky during its 5-7 season in 2025 and the only UK player to earn all-Southeastern Conference honors for his play.

Bryant was a priority for new coach Will Stein to retain on the roster and the defensive back re-signed with Kentucky not long after Stein took over

The former Frederick Douglass High School standout added another huge honor Tuesday when he was named a College Sports Communications First Team Academic All-American.

Bryant, a communications major, has a 3.77 grade-point average. His father, former UK receiver Cisco Bryant, has always stressed academics to his son and it shows with his academic performance.

The last Academic All-American at Kentucky was quarterback Will Levin in 2022. Only 22 previous UK players have earned this prestigious honor and Bryant is only the 14th Kentucky player to be named to the first team.

The junior is a two-time Southeastern Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll member and was named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll as a freshman. He has also been named to UK’s Dean’s List five times.

Bryant is also a member of UK’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council and the SEC’s Football Leadership Council.

On the field, he led UK in tackles with 76 during the 2025 season and started all 12 games. He led the SEC with four interceptions and had two interceptions against Mississippi.

  1. We should have one of the best secondaries in college football next year. Our defensive line is also elite. Our linebackers are mostly young. Sam Greene needs to get back to the form he was playing at before he got hurt. Grant Godfrey should also get a starting nod. It will be between Wallace and Barnes who will start at the other linebacker position. I give the nod to Barnes but Wallace should get plenty of playing time too. With the returning players and the transfers we got who can make a difference in 2026 will lead this team from the cellar of the SEC. To a top to middle tier program in Steins first year. If I could make a guess I would say with a 9 game SEC schedule and playing Texas A&M LSU Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and a revamped Florida next season making a bowl game will feel like a success. I'm guessing we go 7-5 or 8-4. Which if Stoops had this team this year with his returners I think 5-6 wins would be the ceiling. Now with Stein I feel like 7-8 games is the ceiling. With a big chance at a upset or two to possibly win at the max 9 games. 9 wins with this schedule could probably get you in the playoff by the skin of your teeth. Our offensive line is elite. The best maybe we've ever had here as far as being good at both pass blocking and run blocking. Minchey has a quick release and a very high football IQ. It wouldn't surprise me if he throws for over 3,000 yards in his first year starting. I think Nic Anderson or Willie Rodriguez will lead the team in catches. I also really like Mikkel Skinner in will steins offense. I think he will be a all SEC freshman team member.
